CHARDEP is an Non Governmental Organisation (NGO) located in Kanyakumari district, Tamilnadu, and deliver developmental support to underprivileged and neglected social segments.. We are an NGO with a difference. What sets us apart from the average NGO is our approach.

 

To work towards fulfilling the felt and identified needs of the people at all levels of the society thereby creating a sustainable and replicable model of holistic development contributing to the growth of the nation at large.

MANOLAYA - Achankulam, Kanyakumari

Envisioned as a place where the mentally ill would receive proper treatment and love, this rehabilitation centre was constructed on 8 acres of land at Atchankulam, at the foothills of Marunthuvalmalai. Manolaya is registered under the Commissionerate for the Welfare of the Differently Abled with registration number: 11/2014. The building which is about 8,000 square feet was constructed entirely out of donations made by friends and well wishers and was declared open on 14.10.2014 by Hon’ble Shri. Pon Radhakrishnan, Minister of State (Heavy Industries), Government of India.

MANOLAYA - Dhanuskodi Road, Ramesvaram

A suitable building was rented at Rameswaram, very near the Railway Station and altered to be able to house 60 mentally ill men. MANOLAYA – Rameswaram was declared opened on 17th November, 2017 by Shri. iLa. Ganeshan, MP of Rajya Sabha at a grand inaugural function. 29 destitute men were rescued on that day from the streets. Helping the staff were a team of cured mentally ill persons from MANOLAYA – Kanyakumari. The rescued men were thoroughly cleaned, provided with new clothes, and given a luxurious meal before being accommodated at MANOLAYA. A capable team of staff are caring for them.

Manolaya and Annapoorna Yathra are run exclusively through public contributions. They do not receive funds from any funding agency, either governmental or international. We appeal to you to join us in helping.

Our Thoughts and Commitment

The overall objective of Manolaya is to provide services that are individualized and rehabilitative in nature to mentally ill destitute people living on the streets to enable them to regain control of their lives.
