Features of Self Help Groups formed by CHARDEP

Structured selection criteria

All the beneficiary groups will be assessed for a set of criteria before they are recommended for the loan. This selection is done at two levels. The field level and at the head office level. All the group members have to be present at the time of Head office level selection phase.

Proper monitoring mechanisms

Structured micro plan of action is drawn for each of the monitors and the Head office support staff to ensure that all the records are monitored frequently and issues are brought to the notice of the respective managers in a transparent manner. Weekly and monthly reports are generated on need basis to ensure that proper documentation is maintained at all times.

Recovery strategies

Monitors are given specific number of groups to monitor and they will have to visit the groups at least once every fortnight and report back on the developments of the group and also his/her suggestions. This is done to ensure that bad debts are reduced or anticipated ahead in order to come out with repair mechanisms. This will ensure that the organization is ready at all times to tackle these kind of issues and hence the possibility of bad recovery is reduced.

Activities other than economic assistance

  • CHARDEP views Self Help Groups not just as a means to create economic independence among rural women but also as a tool to enhance literacy among rural women, inculcate social responsibilities among them, promote civic participation so that they play a very important role in the development and progress of the society which has the capabilities to spread its roots to the entire nation. Various trainings to this effect have been conducted for the staff of the organization who acts as monitors who are given the responsibility to carry out these activities during the weekly meetings of the groups.

Future plans

  • To form Community based organizations to work for women development by identifying women who are capable of fighting for their rights
  • To ensure that more women take part in the local administration by motivating them through trainings on civic participation
  • To engage youth in the process of empowerment thereby creating a sustainable change in the society

Be a part

CHARDEP requests all its partners and visitors to help generously to ensure that more new initiatives can be designed for the women. Monetary support can be utilized to provide job opportunities for deserving youngsters who can fulfill the vision that we have envisaged for the future. Support can also be in terms of supporting education of children from poor economic background for which CHARDEP is willing to provide details from rural areas.
